Juneteenth Office Closure Friday June 19, 2026
About Juneteenth
Juneteenth, celebrated annually on June 19, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Texas learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. It is recognized as the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States.
Juneteenth is a time to honor freedom, reflect on our nation's history, celebrate African American culture and achievements, and promote unity, education, and community. In 2021, Juneteenth was officially designated as a federal holiday in the United States.
